About ACCESS
The Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden (ACCESS) platform aims to facilitate and deepen the academic relations between Chile and Sweden, as well as to enable researchers, staff and students to become more connected to each other.
ACCESS was created on the foundation of the strong historical links between Chile and Sweden. Despite the distance, the countries are well connected, and both recognize the paramount importance of facing the global challenges with knowledge and research. With 9 years of successful efforts in connecting scholars and stakeholders from both Chile and Sweden, ACCESS is taking the next step by launching ACCESS 3.0 in 2025.
ACCESS 3.0 will offer annual forums, beginning with the ACCESS Forum in Concepción, Chile, in 2026. Additionally, in collaboration with STINT (The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education), ACCESS 3.0 will provide funding opportunities to support the development of joint courses for PhD students and postdocs, through annual calls for proposals.
Our History
The ACCESS platform was initiated in 2016 by Lund University and Uppsala University in Sweden together with the Chilean universities Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile, looking to facilitate and deepen the academic relations between Chile and Sweden as well as to enable researchers, staff and students to become more connected to each other.
The framework of the platform was collectively agreed upon in November 2016 and the founding members decided to create research seminars in Chile and Sweden. The first seminar was held in Lund 2017, the second in Santiago, the third in Punta Arenas, Chile, the fourth in Stockholm, Sweden and the fifth will take place in Concepcion, Chile in January 2026.
Since then the ACCESS platform has grown and we are proud to now have 17 members, consisting of eight Swedish universities and nine Chilean universities, all working towards connecting our two countries through research and academic relations.
